July 2nd, 2007

The second day will be devoted to a variety of hands -on workshops, exposing participants to the latest practices and emerging technologies.
The workshops will be led by top bloggers from around the world and Israeli industry leaders.

We will offer two tracks:
1- A professional business track for technology companies, VCs, and other businesses aimed to promote the marketing and practical aspects of corporate blogging.
2- A personal, independent practical track aimed at teaching the bloggers how to: increase traffic, market their blog, improve techniques, disseminate knowledge on blog writing, combine text and images, photographs (photoblog), sketchblog, videos (vlog), and audio (podcasting). Unique case studies will be analyzed and discusseds.

1- Enterprise 2.0 track - workshops:

Recent trends suggest that corporate blogging will be a key driver in the next wave of adoption of social media tools. This track offers tools and study cases on corporate marketing and communications to gauge adoption patterns, explore barriers to adoption, and discover new applications as businesses tap the tools of social media to create new conversations with their customers, partners, and employees.

1- "Blogging as a new business reality": Breakfast with Guy Rolnik
TheMarker founder and editor in chief, deputy publisher of Ha'areetz group.

TheMarker Website launched "TheMarker cafe", Israel’s first business-oriented social network, in March 2007 and is now home to over 22,000 members. The platform enables businesspeople to expand in the virtual sphere, train other businesspeople, voice their opinions and gain professional insight. TheMarker cafe also hosts a variety of professional communities from a wide range of fields, professional forums as well as many well-known bloggers.
In this unique meeting, Guy Rolnik will explain how the latest developments on the Internet are changing the business reality and why more and more managers are using blogs and other Internet platforms to promote their business and improve customer relations.
 
2- Master Class By Om Malik, USA: "The Interaction between blogs, bloggers and Enterprises"
What are the advantages and disadvantage of blog uses for enterprises needs? How should enterprises contact bloggers and what information should they provide them with? How can enterprises use the information appearing on blogs? These aspects and more will be discussed during the workshop, showcasing case studies based on Om Malik's experiences as a blogger and technological writer.
Instructor: Om Malik, the executive editor of the GigaOM blog a Web 2.0 blog started in San Francisco. The website has a monthly global audience of 500,000, is among the top 50 blogs worldwide by Technorati Rank, and is part of CNet's 100 Most Influential Blogs.


3- Workshop: "Next generation of communications and information management - Web logging as an inner organizations tool"
What are the advantages and disadvantages of the organizational blog? How do you give your company workers a chance to express themselves? How can you improve your company's knowledge management?

5- Professional Workshop: Corporate Blogging - Creating a Blog to Suit Your Organizational Objectives

This workshop will present the creation of two corporate blogs – PWC and Oracle. It will also address the practical elements of creating each blog from start to finish as well as discuss all the challenges along the way, including: building the project management team, promotion - both in and outside the organization, cost issues, schedules, risks involved, benefits and the overall implications of creating such a project. The PWC blog project will be discussed in full, including all data and results since its posting, three months ago.

6- Workshop: "Ask the VC's blog"
In recent years both sides of the business-technology divide have increasingly begun to utilize blogs. On the business end, VCs and other investors blog in order to shed light on the investment process and to help encourage deal flow. On the technology side, startups increasingly blog to stay in touch with their users. How can the two sides utilize blogs to open up a dialogue between them? What can investors do to help them find interesting opportunities? And what can startups do to increase their exposure and chances for funding?.

How do you create the ultimate gossip or news post? How do you choose which stories to post on your blog? What are the advantages\ disadvantages of the blog platform for writing your news and gossip stories?

10- Master Class By "Ask A Ninja", the comedy video blog from the USA: "From idea to execution and distribution"
How to take an abstract idea for online video production and to translate it into a feasible model that can be distributed across the net. The workshop will be conducted by Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine from the leading video blog Ask a Ninja. During the workshop different aspects relating to video blogs will be discussed.
Created by Kent Nichols & Douglas Sarine, "Ask A Ninja" is an award-winning series of comedy videos about the image of ninjas in popular culture available in podcast and vodcast form. Recently, Nichols and Sarine appeared as commentators on VH1's Best Week Ever and won the 2007 Webby Film & Video Awards Best Actor.

 
11- Master Class By Om Malik, USA: "Capturing Innovation"
How can you capture the cutting edge technological developments? What are the best sources for technological innovation stories? How can you choose the right story for your blog? What's the best way to work with PR companies?

12- Workshop: Blogging @ Microsoft: "Exiting and Future technologies for the bloggers community"
In this seminar Microsoft will reveal new tools and technologies for bloggers as well as explore future technologies that will empower bloggers to reach new heights. We will start by showing Windows Live Writer, a new free tool that easily enables bloggers to create sophisticated posts. We'll also show how to use Word 2007 to manage blogs.
In addition, we will show future tools and trends for the blogger community such as social network modeling tools and discuss the importance of blogging @ Microsoft.

13- Workshop: "The Shifting Legal Landscape of Blogging - Or how not to get to prison just for writing a blog"
The use of blogs as a forum for online communication is gaining popularity and their content is gaining influence, yet blogs raise a litany of challenging legal issues, including ones involving copyright, trademark, privacy and defamation law. Among the topics on the agenda for this workshop: content that can be used on your blog, liability for posted third party content, practical steps to reduce copyright infringement issues, use of trademarks, permission to use links, legal accountability, protection of contact names and much more. We will review law and new developments in the US, Israel and European Union.
Instructor: Adv. David Mirchin, partner with the firm of Meitar Liquornik Geva & Leshem Brandwein. He is currently an adjunct professor of Internet Law at IDC Herzliya's Law School.

14- Workshop: New Diplomacy through New Media?
Can new technical tools influence and encourage a new form of diplomacy? Can your Blog make a difference in world global campaigns?
New media technologies play a leading role in facilitating cross-cultural dialogues and alter the ways citizens throughout the region construct and decipher images of other groups, states, and cultures. This workshop will look into the role that new media technologies have in constructing a message and will explore the role bloggers play in shaping how public opinion is shaped bridging international boundaries via new media outlets. The workshop will share study cases and true stories reflecting a cross-national approach, highlighting the contribution an individual might have to successful campaigns. Learn how to get involved and make a difference.

15- Master Class By Justin Kownacki, USA, Something to be Desired (STBD): "Developing and distributing of low-budget productions"
Do you have an outstanding idea for a TV show but no one is willing to listen to you? STBD is one of the longest-running web series, online since 2003. It follows the lives, loves and very bad ideas of a group of struggling artists in Pittsburgh. Hear first hand how it started, where it's headed and all the stories in between. Learn from Justin Kownacki how to take the traditional low budget video production process and adapt it to cyberspace, while maintaining the quality of the product.
Instructor: Justin Kownacki, a freelance video producer and writer graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, where he earned a degree in computer animation and multimedia. Kownacki is the creator, producer, director, writer and film editor of "Something To Be Desired".

 

16- Master Class By Garrett M. Graff, USA: "Politics on the net"
The continued development and influx of new media technologies is having decisive political and social implications often in unexpected ways. Governments and Political organizations can no longer control the framing and distribution of information and news, new media technologies are offering up a virtual forum that allows for previously disenfranchised groups to communicate their opinions, criticisms, and demands.

Micah L. Sifry is a co-founder and executive editor of the Personal Democracy Forum, which covers the ways technology, is changing politics. He consults on how political organizations, campaigns, non-profits and media entities can adapt to and thrive in a networked world.

17- Master Class By "Rocketboom", USA: "A daily Newsblog production"
Rocketboom is a three minute daily videoblog based in New York City. It offers a wide range of information and commentary from top news stories to quirky internet culture. Its agenda includes releasing each new clip at 9am ET every Monday through Friday. With a heavy emphasis on international arts, technology and weblog drama, Rocketboom is presented via online video and widely distributed through RSS.
Rocketboom is currently one of the most popular videoblogs on the internet with more daily subscribers for original syndicated multimedia content than nearly any other site, including podcasts.
As a sample for low budget productions Rocketboom is created with a consumer-level video camera, a laptop, two lights and a map with no additional overhead or costs.

2. Joanne Colan, Leading presenter and a producer in the popular video blog Rocketboom. Colan, originally from the UK, previously worked as a researcher, host, writer and producer at BBC radio and television. She also worked on several MTv shows as a writer and host, including: MTV News, Top 20 Countdown and MTV Movie Special.

 

18- Workshop (Nana): How to Manage a Popular Blog

Everything you need to know to go from being an unknown blogger to becoming a sought-after celebrity on the net.
Instructors:
Ran Yaniv Hartstein, computer reporter for Nana, translates Wordpress into Hebrew and blogger.
Shira Gal-Shreiber, among the first bloggers on Israblog.

 
19- Workshop: The Final Word on Shooting Home Video
This workshop will provide hands-on instruction in getting the most out of your home video camera. We will focus on proper use of lighting, framing and basic camera skills. The workshop will cover simple camera movements, proper use of different menu options on the camera, tips for shooting that enable basic editing and how to avoid common mistakes.

20- A Conversation with Dvorit Shargal: The Transition from Print Journalism to Opening an Anonymous Blog and the Roads Traveled with my Blog Since the Last Day of 2005.
Instructor: Dvorit Shargal, journalist and media blogger (Velvet Underground), writes for TheMarker and Ha'Ir and is the movie reviewer for Rating magazine.
 
21- Become the master of the new sound- wave (beginners)
Podacsts are growing in popularity. Here you can come and learn how to sway power over this new medium. Hear an overview of the development of new medium and how people use podcasts today to promote content and information. Other topics to be discussed: The future and the potential of podcasts, how to start a podcast for less then 10$ and under 5 minutes, and much more.
This workshop will also cover the theoretic basis of the sound medium and will teach participants how to create a quality podcast.
Instructor: Ziv Kitaro, an author and journalist who gives lectures about technology, self improvement, and interpersonal relations. Kitaro is one of the Israel's first podcasters and the founder and host of "Kitaro's Sideshow", Israel's longest running podcast.

 
22- Become the master of the new sound- wave (advanced)
This is an advanced content workshop that will include instruction on state-of-the-art equipment in creating enriched podcasts, expanding your network and taking your podcast to the next level.
Instructor: Ziv Kitaro, an author and journalist who gives lectures about technology, self improvement, and interpersonal relations. Kitaro is one of the Israel's first podcasters and the founder and host of "Kitaro's Sideshow", Israel's longest running podcast.

 
23- Linkbaiting techniques in Web 2.0 and traditional media
Some techniques, now commonly referred to as "linkbaiting" and SMO, are new and web-specific. But many of these tricks had been used by media publishers for centuries to lure audiences and increase circulation. This master-class will focus on most common linkbaiting and SMO techniques, trying to evaluate their impact on media blogs' promotion.
Instructor: Anton Nossik, Internet journalist & manager, CBO of SUP Company (a partner of SixApart for LiveJournal project).
 
24- How can I make my mom watch Internet TV?
Internet TV attracts many creators, but not enough viewers. The reasons may vary – is it technology, marketing, or the right content that is missing? In this session we will discuss and brainstorm how to attract audience to this medium, and the creative and business opportunity in this field. Instructors:
1. Kfir Pravda, a marketer, video producer and blogger. He started his career in the cellular industry, and later formed an animation company. He is currently producing of internet shows and fiction, in cooperation with European production companies. Kfir also serves as VP Marketing of the International Multimedia and Telecommunication Consortium (IMTC), a cross industry video technology organization.
